The clinical issue is the increased amount

The clinical issue is the increased amount of wait times in emergency departments (ED) and what could be done to help elevate this ongoing problem. Two research was chosen and both had suggestions that could help hospitals reduce the wait times patients are experiencing when they have to utilize ED facilities. Both research documents focused on the time difference between when the patient first checks into the ED and the first contact with a provider. The first research document suggested the use of technology, a self-check-in kiosk to help reduce some of the lag time when first contact with a provider whether that provider is a doctor or a midlevel such as a nurse practitioner (NP) or physician’s assistant (PA). The technology showed an average reduction of wait time by 1 hour at a New Jersey Hospital. The second research suggested implementing common methods such as fast-tracking patients, surge nursing when needed, and a door-to-doctor approach. These common methods once implemented produced a dramatic improvement despite a 25.7% increase in inpatient visits and no additional staff being hired at a Canadian hospital in Newfoundland. Both concluded that by implementing technology and commonly used methods wait times in hospital EDs could be reduced increasing patient satisfaction and providing better outcomes. Do you believe the proposed clinical practice solution is appropriate? Is the solution feasible? What suggestions or changes can you offer?
