An article titled Adoption decisions among women denied abortion (n.d.) explains that 9% of women who are denied abortion chose to give their child up for adoption. Although someone may say that this percentage is quite low, I believe that adoption can be extremely traumatic for children and can cause plenty of suffering, since these children likely feel abandoned. I think it’s morally wrong to force someone to have a child because it may place a burden both on the parent(s) and the child. I also believe that accidents happen and are natural. Couples may accidentally conceive a child but may not be financially ready or may not be compatible to have a child together. Although killing a fetus is extremely sad, I believe that there are more issues that arise when couples are forced to have a child. Should abortion be illegal? I believe that abortion should be legal. Amnesty International (2022) explains that no matter what the law is, abortions will exist. Making abortions illegal will only make the process less safe because women will have to see people who may lack the necessary skills to perform abortions. I believe that if abortions are legal, then women will be able to see trained professionals who can perform these procedures safely. This article also explains that unsafe abortions are the third leading cause of maternal deaths worldwide.
