(2018) as a system that needs to be supported by different systems both old and new including software applications that need to be able to connect with each other to exchange data and information amongst the systems (156). This type of exchange is especially important amongst clinical decision support systems in healthcare. The organization I work for has a well-established clinical decision support system (CDSS) that is comprised of three web-based application and one vendor-hosted system. The clinical knowledge provided by healthcare professionals in integrated with the CDSS to provide the best recommendations of care for the patient. “Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSSs) can be developed that match evidence-based guidelines to patient conditions and generates customized recommendations” (Xiao et al., 2022, p. 10466). Diagnoses and treatments change based on clinical information and evidence-based research. As a result of this, it is imperative that CDSS are maintained and improved consistently to provide the best care possible to patients by practitioners who are utilizing the most up to date information and knowledge about the patient and his/her diagnosis and health. A system in my employer’s organization that needs improvement is the human resources information system (HRIS). Policies and Procedures within the Human Resources department are lacking in accurate knowledge and information provided in the written policies themselves as well as the department staff responsible for knowing and carrying out the policies and procedures appropriately. Additionally, there have been occurrences where an employees accrued hours did not match up accordingly to their accrued PTO hours. These errors occur more of often than they should and get overlooked. Many employees may not be aware this happens end up losing earned time they had worked for. The human resources information system and staff within the department at my organization could benefit from knowledge management, “set of strategies for identifying, creating, and presenting the competencies and experiences of businesses and their employees. Gaining knowledge and competence to improve the HRIS requires work on behalf of the staff within the HR department and working with administrators for approval and support to implement technology and the expertise of personnel well versed in the information system. “HRIS is the tool that can resolve this issue of managing knowledge and human capital through organizational and individual learning” (Memon et al., 2022, p. 19). Astute knowledge of the HRIS by department staff is essential to make the necessary changes and improvements for staff and all employees within the organization.
