Choose a partner who does not “look like you.” The “look” can be race, gender, religion, language, country of origin and/or age difference. It does not have to be a classmate but should be someone who understands nursing and nursing education. Discuss the following thoughts. What are some explicit biases you may have in taking care of patients? If you feel comfortable, you may acknowledge your implicit biases, but this is not required. What experiences have you had while in school where you may have felt marginalized, disenfranchised and/or stigmatized? What experiences have you had while in clinical or at your job where you felt someone else’s bias towards you because of your race, gender, religion, language, country of origin (or any other reason) What do you wish your classmates or faculty knew about the experiences you have had that have made you feels marginalized, disenfranchised and/or stigmatized? Please include your race, gender, religion and what language you speak. It will not be disclosed to anyone but me and my professor. Please also include what type of nurse or healthcare worker you are and what you do if possible. I was unable to interview a coworker and I have no friends who work in the healthcare field.
