A potential practice problem is the lack of proper hand hygiene among nurses and nursing students. A would be is nursing school properly teaching and reinforcing the teaching of proper hand hygiene. One study showed that only 36.2% of the time did nursing students wash their hands after medication administration and only 4.7% of the students washed their hands for the full 60 seconds. The study had 106 subjects that were all nursing school students. These results suggest that the students may not have fully comprehended the importance of hand washing (Avsar, 2015). Another study showed that having prior education on the importance and proper procedure of hand hygiene led to a higher rate of hand-hygiene compliance. Having a history of knowledge and practice also leads to the students being aware of potential errors to be made, allowing them to avoid them. This study is extremely relevant to the and shows validity to the theory that teaching proper hand-hygiene will lead to better patient outcomes (Radika, 2022). Implementation: The nursing programs that our facility allow to come here for clinical rotations will have their students to do a short online course on the importance of and proper procedure of handwashing. Evaluation: When the students begin here, they will have to show competency on day one with one of our staff members.
