Research : What interpersonal and business practices

Research : What interpersonal and business practices are creating, reducing, or eliminating barriers to reproductive healthcare with midwives for TGD people? The goal of this study is to explore the experiences of people in the TGD population with midwifery care. Surveys would not produce the depth of data that this study seeks to obtain. The method for this study will be private interviews with a series of open-ended questions asking about both positive and negative experiences with specific probes into the various types of barriers. Interviews will begin by asking participants to describe their experiences with seeking reproductive healthcare with midwives. Then they will be asked to describe what midwives said or did to make it easier or harder for them to obtain the desired midwifery care. Barriers spontaneously described will be noted and remaining barriers will be asked about specifically. For example, “What financial factors affected your decision making and what did the midwife do that made it easier or harder to obtain midwifery care?”. Interviews will continue until redundancy of data is achieved. Consent will be obtained for recording before starting. Interviews will be recorded and transcribed using a voice to text program. The transcription will then be compared to the recording and corrected as needed. A single interviewer will conduct the interviews for consistency. The data will then be analyzed using thematic analysis to identify common experiences between participants. Participants will be invited to review the transcriptions of their interviews for verification. Major and minor themes will be sorted into as many categories and subcategories as the data presents. Once the primary analysis is complete 2 external experts will review the findings for accuracy, one person experienced in qualitative research and one person experienced with TGD healthcare. The data collected will be somewhat specific to the location of the study. Participants would need to be collected from a variety of geographic locations and cultures to be able to be generalized to the TGD population at large. This study is meant as a small local study to explore factors in the community where the investigator works, with a goal of better serving the local population. If it is effective the study could then be repeated in multiple locations to produce data that could be generalized more widely. HOW TO REPLY TO THIS POST
