PA6 – Sprains and strains – Practical Assessment 6 Scenario: Your colleague trips over and is complaining of intense pain and rapid swelling of the left ankle. Your colleague says that he is unable to move it or stand up. Requirement: You must be observed performing the following: Apply the steps involved in DRSABCD protocol (is conscious) and gain consent. Must include the application of gloves and sending for assistance. Assess and recognised the signs and symptoms of a Sprains or strains (your assessor will ask you to verbally identify the signs and symptoms of both a sprain and strain separately): Reassure the casualty and ask them to remain calm. Follow the RICE management plan. They prepared to explain the treatment regime to the casualty in order to demonstrate your knowledge of this treatment to the assessor. Continue to apply DRSABCD protocol whilst under supervision Demonstrate safe manual handling when assisting casualty. Demonstrated knowledge of treating a Sprains or Strains through your practical application of treatment and engagement with the casualty. Communicated the incident and treatment clearly and accurately in a verbal handover. This handover will be requested by the assessor.
