Steven is a 10-year old boy who has been diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. The least restrictive environment identified in his IEP states that he is to be allowed full independent participation in regular physical education. Although he appears to be a very bright child with no obvious cognitive learning deficits, he has difficulty staying on task and is often observed wandering around the gym during physical education class. Because of his resistance to authority and unwillingness to cooperate, Steven is not improving his performance in many of the skills taught in physical education class. It has also been observed that Steven refuses to stay in his designated area during attendance, warm-ups, and while practicing in skill stations.
